Cat Claws Convertible Cat Scratcher Review – Riding in Style!

Cat Claws Convertible Cat Scratcher Review
Written by Kevin

Lucas is a big fan of scratch pads – more so than any cat I have ever known.

Because of this, we have always given him plenty to choose from. By directing him toward appropriate objects like cardboard scratchers, we can not only fulfill his innate scratching desires, but also save our furniture and carpets as well!

Today we are going to be taking a look at Lucas’ latest obsession – The Cat Claws Convertible Scratch Pad!

Why Do Cats Scratch in the First Place?

Scratching is not merely a claw sharpening exercise as commonly thought. This behavior actually accomplishes a wide variety of things for our feline friends:

  • Removes the dead outer layer of their claws
  • Territorial marking
  • Provides a convenient way to stretch
  • Conditions claws
  • Releases stress, tension and built up energy

About Cat Claws

Cat Claws is a family owned company, that has been making all natural cat products for over 30 years. They got their start after the founder (who owned a corrugated box company) realized how much his cats enjoyed scratching on his sample materials. Since then, they have become well know for their huge variety of innovative (and often hilarious) cat scratchers, cat toys and even treats.

Cat Claws brand scratch pad

As a company, Cat Claws is strongly committed to the environment, using recycled paper for their scratch pads and soy based ink on their labeling. All of their scratchers are also made in America and 100% recyclable after use!

Cat Claws was kind enough to send over a shiny new scratcher for our resident expert to test out. They are also sponsoring a giveaway so make sure to read through until the end!

Cat Claws Convertible Cat Scratcher Review

The Convertible Scratch Pad is a part of their M.A.X series which includes other fun models such as the Cat Sofa, Cat Triangle, and Cat Turtle.

You seriously NEED to check out their collection

This is our first Cat Claws Scratcher, but definitely not our last!

Cat scratch pad made of stacked corrugated cardboard.

The car itself measures 21″ X 9″ X 4″ and weighs about 1.5 lbs. What is really cool is that they include a small bag of certified organic catnip along with every scratch pad!

Time to play!

Typically we have to add a bit of catnip onto a new toy or scratcher to get Lucas interested – but in this case we didn’t even have time! And forget about capturing photos while it was still in pristine condition!

Lucas having a blast on his convertible cat scratchpad from Cat Claws

As soon as we opened the box, Lucas was all over this thing – scratching, rolling, and claiming it as his own. But what can you do? This is his blog after all!

We let him have his fun and postponed our plans!

Comparing the Cat Claws Convertible to the Cat Love Race Car Scratch Pad

Believe it or not, this isn’t the only car in Lucas’ garage!

The Cat Claws scratcher is much wider than the Cat Love model that we have tried on the past – making it more stable, and less likely to tip over. This also gives Lucas more room to hang out and “meatloaf” on the top (which is a another hobby of his).

Lucas relaxing on his new car shaped scratch pad

The corrugated cardboard used is of a really great consistency as well. It has a good amount of give – allowing Lucas to sink his claws right in and pull, while still maintaining its shape and not wearing too quickly. This is NOT the paper thin variety that is often found in cheaper scratchers.

We have had this scratchpad for nearly 2 weeks now and it has not lost it’s novelty at all. Lucas still visits it multiple times per day to get a good scratch in and is commonly found napping on or near it.

Why MyCatLikes the Cat Claws Race Car Cat Scratcher

While you may think that these funny shapes are more for humans than cats, there is more to the design than meets the eye! The curves and angles provide your cat with a wide variety of ways to interact with the scratcher – making it extremely versatile and your cat less likely to tire of it.

We would highly recommend the Cat Convertible (or any of the other fun Cat Claws models) for any scratch pad enthusiast!

  • i dont have any cats, only 3 doggies, but would love this to donate to safe haven for cats, rescue and clinic. i like the Imperial Cat Tower Tunnel Scratch n Shape, because it gives them something to do, by jumping thru the hoop as well as a place to scratch.

    • That is so sweet of you, Sandy! And excellent choice – I think the shelter cats would have a blast in the Tower Tunnel!

  • I think my cat Fluffy would enjoy Imperial Cat – Cat and Around, Pink & White Heart Ribbon Pillow Refillable Catnip Toy

  • I think my cat would really love the turtle scratcher also! So cute and he will love being able to climb through the hole!

  • I think our cat sonata would like the tiger because not only can she scratch, but she can also hide in the hole when the dogs get to rambunctious .

  • Imperial seems to be the only option. Either way, my cat would love and ruin this thing in probably a weeks time.

  • The turtle. We have a pet turtle and I would much rather he use a scratcher turtle to test his claws.

  • I can’t even believe that our baby is 11 years old! And still going strong…I think he’d like the Iguana, mostly because the shape of it. He can just spread out on it and scratch and be lazy at the same time!

  • My cat would like the Imperial Cat Grand Scratch ‘n Pad Scratcher, I’m guessing as he doesn’t talk. 🙂
But like one of the other people said, he’d tear it up in a week’s time. He’s pretty rambunctious.

  • The imperial scratcher looks wide and accommodating ! We have shelter fosters in our home so we always need cat supplies and I like to give them a variety to see what they like or don’t in order to tell potential families.

  • I think my cat would most enjoy the wide Imperial Cat Racer Scratch and Shape in Black . But, he loves to scratch anything!

  • I think my cats would enjoy the Imperial Cat Chaise Scratch and Shape, Victorian Blue.

  • My cat would love any of them, but I’m guessing she’s like the sofa best because she acts like a princess.

  • I think my two cats would love this one Imperial Cat Big Cat Scratch and Shape, Modern Red

  • 2 two grandcats definitely need this. I inherent then after my 24 year old son passed away four years ago they were 2 months old he adopted them from the SPCA. They love to SCRATCH!
Thank you very for for the chance . Wade and LeBron would be thrilled.

  • These are so cute! I think mine would especially love the Imperial Cat Rub n Ramp Scratch n Shape.

  • I think that all 3 of them would have so much fun with the Imperial Cat Grand Scratch ‘n Pad Scratcher.
